How do I use OneSearch?

In order to access OneSearch, you need to be in one of our libraries using a PC or at a PC outside the library with your 14-digit library card and pin. PDF version.

Basic Search

  1. Click on the OneSearch button.
  2. In the Enter search criteria area, enter your keyword(s).
  3. In the List of resources area, check the Select/Deselect All box to search all resources

    OR

  4. Scroll down to check the individual boxes next to the desired resources.
  5. Click the Search button at the top or bottom of the list of resources.

Basic Search by subject category

  1. Click on the OneSearch button.
  2. In the Enter search criteria area, enter your keyword(s).
  3. In the Select category area, check the box next to the desired subject.
  4. Click the Search button at the top or bottom of the list of resources.

Boolean Search: using And, Or, Not

  1. In the Enter search criteria area, select And to narrow a search. The more words or phrases connected by And, the fewer results will be retrieved.
  2. In the Enter search criteria area, select Or to broaden a search.
  3. In the Enter search criteria area, select Not to narrow a search. It will exclude any document containing the search term used with it.

Search by type: All, Keyword, Title, Author, Abstract, and Subject

  1. There is a drop-down list of search types available in the Enter search criteria area.
  2. These include:
    1. All: Searches all the fields available (varies by resource).
    2. Keyword: Searches anywhere in the record.
    3. Title: Searches the title field only.
    4. Author: Searches the author field only.
    5. Abstract: Searches the abstract only (an abstract is similar to a summary).
    6. Subject: Searches the subject field(s) only.

Tips: Using All and Keyword will produce a wide search while Title, Author, Abstract and Subject will narrow the search.

Search by Publication date

  1. Narrow a search by selecting a date range.
  2. In the Enter search criteria area, select the radio button for Year range (default is All dates).
  3. From the drop-down menus select the date range.

Viewing Results

  1. There are several different types of buttons that could be displayed beneath each result list.
    1. View: This will provide more information and may also include a link to access full-text.
    2. View Image: Opens the page image with additional options to print or download. Also gives links for Viewing the citation and Table of Contents.
    3. Full-text with graphics: Opens the full-text version with graphics displayed.
    4. Text: Opens the full-text version.
    5. Full-text: Opens the full-text version.
    6. Text with graphics: Opens the full-text version with graphics displayed.
    7. # PDF Pages: Opens a PDF full-text version and indicates number of pages.
    8. About this Publication: Gives detailed information about the publication to include: ISBN, Table of Contents, and etc...
    9. How to Cite: Gives examples for citing using MLA or APA.

Printing/Saving/Emailing Result List

  1. Within each set of results, there are checkboxes for each result and Select or Deselect all.
  2. Select the checkboxes wanted for a result list.
  3. Printing: Click on the Print Results link toward top of the page.
  4. A window with the results and a Print window appear. Print as normal. (Remember, within the library black & white prints are 10¢ per page, color is $1 per page.)
  5. Saving: Click on the Save Results link toward top of the page.
  6. Select the radio button for Save as Plain Text file. (Plain Text files can be opened in word processing programs.)
  7. Click Save and select destination for saving file.
  8. Emailing: Click on the Email Results link toward top of the page.
  9. Complete the fields and click on Send.
