Troubleshooting Remote Access
Library Card |
Only current library card holders can access the online resources from outside the Library. To authenticate, your userid is your library card number. This can be found on a barcode on your library card and begins with 286. . . Enter all 14 digits without the spaces. |
Refresh |
Clicking the Refresh button on your browser might resolve the problem or using a different browser might work. If you are using Internet Explorer, try using Netscape or vice versa. |
Error messages |
One of the most common web page error messages is 404 Not Found. In some cases, this means that the server is down on the other end. Try again later. |
Browser Support |
Some of our online resource vendors do not support all browsers, specifically WebTV or the AOL browser. If your Internet connection is through AOL, you must use a supported browser, usually Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x. |

Firewalls |
Some people also have firewall software, such as Norton Internet Security, Norton Personal Firewall, or Symantec Desktop Firewall, on their personal computers that may be blocking referrer information to the online resources. You will need to consult your software manual and/or contact their technical support for help in setting your software so that you can access our online resources. |
Vendor FAQs |
Some of the vendors of the online resources provide guides for troubleshooting access issues: Ebscohost -- Literary Reference Center and Novelist |
Security |
If you are trying to access the online resources from work, you might check with your network security. Some places of employment have their network configured in such a way, usually with firewalls or other security features, that access to our online resources is prevented. |
Java and JavaScript |
Java and JavaScript must be enabled to access some online resources. To enable these features:
