Teen Advisory Board

What is TAB? TAB is a way for you to have a voice at the library, participate in fun programs with other teens, and help others. And, you can earn Community Service Learning hours through TAB.

TAB groups meet once a month and are open to all students in middle school and high school. You do not need to sign up ahead of time. Just come to a meeting, and sign up when you get there.
Current TAB activities include:

  • Helping choose books and magazines for our teen collections
  • Assisting at library programs--such as reading to children, helping at special events, and teaching new technologies to other teens
  • Giving advice about which programs and services you would like to see offered at the library for teens

Choose from among our four TAB groups.
There is one close to you!

TAB Application Form

TAB Leadership Application–For teens who would like a more active leadership role in TAB; requires attendance at meetings in addition to the regular monthly TAB group.

Sound interesting? Call your library where you would like to volunteer and ask to speak with the Teen Librarian. Or call to find out the date of the next TAB meeting, and/or look at our online calendar.

Volunteens

What is the Volunteen program? This is another program that allows you to volunteer your services at the library. VolunTeens may sometimes do activities that are similar to TAB, such as helping with library programs. However, you must be 14 to 18 years old to be a VolunTeen--and you will be expected to be able to work independently, rather than in a group setting.

Possible Tasks

  • VolunTeens may be asked to do such tasks as shelving books and assisting with office projects. Therefore, becoming a VolunTeen is an excellent way to gain experience that will be helpful in finding a job.
  • VolunTeen duties vary from library to library. Some libraries use VolunTeens only during the summer, while other libraries have a need for them year round.
  • You will need to fill out a VolunTeen application form and attend a mandatory orientation meeting.
  • Take your completed application to the library where you wish to volunteer. And don't forget, Community Service Learning hours may be earned through the VolunTeen program also!
