3D Printing

The Digital Media Labs at Libbie Mill & Twin Hickory Libraries have a 3D printer available for you to submit files. 3D printing must be picked up at the library from which you requested it . If you've created something (via a program like Tinkercad) or downloaded something someone else designed (via a service like Thingiverse) you can request that it be printed.

What do I need?

A library card and an object formatted in an .stl file.

What size object can be printed?

Our Ultimaker 2 can print objects a maximum of 23cm Wide x 22.5cm Deep x 20.5cm High. Objects that are larger than these dimensions will not be printed.

How much does it cost?

The charge for 3D printing is $0.10 per gram. (As of August 1st the printing will be $.20 per gram.) After you submit your file, library staff will send you an email with the cost and ask if you agree to the amount. When your confirmation is received, staff will proceed with your print job.

How long will it take to print my object?

All print requests will be added to a queue and will be printed in the order in which they were received. Library staff will print all projects as quickly as possible based on staff time and availability. You will be notified when your object has been printed and is ready for pickup. Any object not picked up within 7 days will not be kept.

How many objects can I send you?

You can submit one request at a time. When your object is printed and you've been notified it is ready you may submit another request.
