Witch Hunt by Andrea Balis

[Insert book cover image here]
"Witch Hunt" is a book about the injustice faced by Americans during the Cold War. This time period was also known as the "Red Scare" because America was afraid of communists in their midst. During the Red Scare, white supremacy was very much going strong and many black men who had fought in the war were not honored for helping defeat the Allied forces. Many black people were injured and killed during this time. To help us gain an understanding of how this happened the book gives a deep dive into the politics behind this time period. One person who was responsible for many events in this book was Senator Joe McCarthy. McCarthy led the search for communists in America, which destroyed countless lives. This book shows what was a time in the history of our country where many American's rights were violated.
This book gave a great insight into the communist hunt of the Cold War. It is a great read for those interested in history or politics. This book goes into great detail of this time, with quotes from real people from that time period. All in all, this book truly shows life during the Cold War in its flesh.
The Red Scare has many striking truths behind it, but the one that most intrigued me was how people were accused of being a communist. Having something red, or even saying the word red could have people calling you a communist. It seems trivial in this time period, but people back then truly believed in this, which shows how paranoid people got during the Red Scare.
