Programs for Older Adults this Fall

You have more life experience– but maybe you are still working, are busy with caregiving, and you like to play video games too. We get it, which is why we recommend a variety of programs and services, especially for older adults!

Celebrate Banned Books Week!

Life would be completely different if we weren’t able to choose what we want to read. Banning and challenging books takes away that choice. Today is the start of Banned Books Week and we are celebrating our freedom to read at the library!

Raising Weather Aware Kids

We are right in the middle of hurricane season and just one short year after a memorable tornado outbreak that moved through Central Virginia. Extreme weather can be fascinating for kids. It can also be a major source of anxiety. Being weather aware and prepared are great first steps in helping kids calm their weather nerves.

Announcing our Summer Reading Prizewinners!

Summer Reading officially ended on August 31. We hope you had as much fun as we did this summer, visiting the library, learning new things at some of our programs, and reading so many great books!

You’re Invited to the New Fairfield Area Library!

The wait is nearly over! We hope you will join us at the Grand Opening of the new Fairfield Area Library on Sunday, October 6. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 2 pm, followed by the opening of the building at 1401 North Laburnum Avenue. Come explore the new library with us!

Humorous Books for Shorter Days

Just this week I noticed that I was starting my days in the dark… which means it is time to lighten up my audiobook choices! Here are some of the funniest books I've listened to recently that can help get you through the dark mornings and early commutes.

Conquer the New School Year

You’ve logged your last book in our summer reading program, packed a backpack full of pencils, and headed back to school. After all, it’s September, which means school is back in session! Just because summer has come to an end, it doesn’t mean that fun at the library is over. HCPL has a number of programs in September to help you transition into the new school year or take your mind off your looming homework.

The Fairfield Library is Moving!

With work nearly finished at the new building site, Fairfield Library will be moving at the end of this month. The last day open at its current location will be Saturday, September 21, with the new building opening on Sunday, October 6.

Fall Child Care Provider Workshops

During the school year, we offer free monthly workshops for child care providers covering a variety of topics. This fall we have presentations from an expert panel of experienced child care workers, our local PBS station, Henrico County Public Schools, and library staff!
