An astronomical literary event is here! Get ready for Teen Read Week!

As part of the Citizen Science movement, we are hosting several Birding Workshops this month! Families are invited to learn the best ways to spot birds in the wild, do a fun bird craft, and practice your bird watching skills outside at the library.

Cooler weather and shorter days make the fall a great time to settle in with a new mystery series. From delightfully gossipy restaurant owners moonlighting as amateur sleuths, to hardened investigators facing the end of the world, or even a crime-solving furry companion, there is a literary detective for everyone.  

Books with difficult subjects or different viewpoints are often challenged or requested to be removed from libraries, which is a form of censorship. We believe that it is important to provide access to challenged books to protect our community’s right to intellectual freedom, to resist censorship, and because calls for censorship and the resultant restriction of intellectual freedom often has an outsized impact on marginalized members of our community.

There are many opportunities for older adults to enjoy life in Henrico County. In the library we offer lectures, craft programs, book discussions, and computer classes all year round. During Active Aging Week we have a variety of programs that provide information and resources for anyone who is looking to stay active and informed, regardless of age.

This year over 9,000 people participated and nearly half met their reading goal! That is a lot of reading. We hope you read lots of great books and had fun visiting the library over the past few months. 

The Winners 

There are still three more Naturalization Information Sessions this fall. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will be at Libbie Mill, Varina, and Twin Hickory libraries to present information for legal permanent residents and interested naturalization applicants. The presenter will discuss the naturalization process and test as well as the rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizens.

Your Henrico County Public Library card is the most important school supply. With it you can do so much more than take home books. You can check out movies, magazines, and audiobooks. We have Birding and Nature Exploration kits, Caregiver kits, and Book Discussion sets that you can take home. Libbie Mill Library even has American Girl Dolls that you can check out to play with in the library!
