You’re Invited to the New Fairfield Area Library!

16---Fairfield-Grand-Opening

The wait is nearly over! We hope you will join us at the Grand Opening of the new Fairfield Area Library on Sunday, October 6. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 2 pm, followed by the opening of the building at 1401 North Laburnum Avenue. Come explore the new library with us!

Designed by Quinn Evans Architects of Richmond (formerly BCWH) and Tappé Architects of Boston with input from area residents, the new Fairfield Library is a gorgeous modern space filled with natural light where library users can learn, work, collaborate, and create. The facility features meeting and study spaces for all ages, a central family collaboration zone, Creation Classroom, Digital Media Lab, quiet study room, and a variety of seating types throughout. The County will seek LEED Silver certification for the building. The U.S. Green Buildings Council awards LEED Certification to buildings designed to be environmentally friendly.

With the expanded footprint and amenities at the new Fairfield Library come expanded hours! The new Fairfield Library will be open 9 am to 9 pm Monday through Thursday, and 9 am to 6 pm Friday and Saturday. Starting Sunday, October 13, the library will be open from 1 pm to 5 pm on Sundays, increasing Sunday library service for Henrico residents.

The library will be part of a cluster of facilities at the Laburnum and Watts intersection, along with the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center, the Health Department, and the future Aquatics Center, creating a convenient destination for a variety of services and activities. There is a great schedule of classes lined up in the Creation Classroom and Digital Media Lab so you can learn valuable life skills as well as fun how-to projects, both hands-on and digital. Be sure to keep an eye on our events calendar to see what is going on!

The current Fairfield Library will be closing on September 21. While we are moving, we encourage you to use the nearby by North Park, Libbie Mill, Sandston, and Varina libraries. Books can still be returned to the outdoor book drop at the current Fairfield Library until Saturday, October 5.
