Sandston Branch Library is Getting a Fresh Look!

20220819_SandstonRefresh_blog

UPDATE:  We are pleased to announce the Sandston Branch Library will reopen on Wednesday, November 30. We hope you will join us for an Open House to celebrate the updated facility, which will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., followed by activities throughout the day. Learn more

Starting September 12, the Sandston Branch Library will be closed for a refresh project.

We will be installing modern, bright, accessible A-frame shelving that will enable face-out displays to highlight book cover art and transform the browsing and wayfinding experience at the library.  In meeting spaces and common areas, you will find new A/V equipment, all new carpet, and a fresh coat of paint.  Outside the library, new environmentally friendly plantings will be added to the landscape.

Whether you are viewing the exterior, browsing books, reading out on the floor, or attending storytime and other programs, your experience will be significantly upgraded.

The Sandston Branch Library will be closed from September 12 through November to complete this refresh.  During the closure, we encourage you to use the nearby Varina or Fairfield Area Libraries.  The Mobile Library Service will also conduct visits to the Sandston library parking lot weekly, on Fridays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.  Book return dropboxes will remain open outside the library during the closure.  If you require any additional accommodation to receive library books or services, please contact us at 804-501-1991. Please stay tuned for information about the reopening date and celebration.

Sandston Branch Library is located in the heart of the Sandston Historic District, in a walkable downtown area.  There has been a public library in Sandston longer than any part of Henrico County. Sandston library's current structure occupies the same site on Williamsburg Road where the first public library in Henrico, operated by the Sandston Women's Club, stood from 1923 until 1980. The new brick building, with its angled skylights and windows, opened in 1980 and underwent a renovation of the children's area in 1997. An overall renovation and major addition took place in 2003, which added study rooms and a bright and spacious meeting room. Lighting at Sandston was fully overhauled to install environmentally friendly, energy efficient fixtures as the first phase of this latest refresh.  With this new investment of over $327,000, Sandston will become the latest library in Henrico to receive an updated look and feel.

If you have questions about accessing library services during this closure, re-opening plans, or the refresh itself, please contact Community Relations Coordinator Patty Conway at 804-501-1906 or pconway@henricolibrary.org.

Will book returns be updated to automated"/electronic submission? That would really be great. Also, in order to be really safe, the parking areas could use additional lighting.
