All Henrico Reads, our signature author event, returns in 2023 with bestselling and award-winning author Jamie Ford, who will discuss his newest novel The Many Daughters of Afong Moy at J.R. Tucker High School on March 30 at 7 p.m.  The community is invited to gather together to learn more about this thought-provoking work as the event returns to an in-person author discussion with an opportunity for Q&A with the author, book sales from Fountain Books, and a book signing.  Book discussion groups about Mr. Ford’s novel begin at library locations across the county next month.  Read on to learn more about the book and how you can get involved with this all-community read.

In partnership with the Friends of Henrico County Public Library and Henrico County Public Schools, HCPL is excited to host a return to in-person All Henrico Reads.  We hope you will join an upcoming book discussion or related event at a library near you, check out a copy of the title from your neighborhood library, and gather with us at the author event.  The Many Daughters of Afong Moy is the latest novel from Jamie Ford, the internationally bestselling author of the modern classic Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet.  The Many Daughters of Afong Moy debuted on the New York Times Best Sellers list and was chosen by Jenna Bush Hager of the Today Show as a “Read with Jenna” pick.  Ms. Hager is developing the novel into a television series.

Our 2023 Featured Book is a powerful exploration of Chinese-American history, inheritance, resilience, and family. Former poet laureate Dorothy Moy has long struggled with mental illness and, when she starts seeing signs in her daughter, undertakes an experimental treatment to address her inherited trauma. Connecting with her family history to improve her family's future, Dorothy uncovers many lifetimes of suffering, searching for a legacy of healing and love.

Learn more about All Henrico Reads, the featured title, our featured author, upcoming book discussions, and related programming at your library on our website. We can’t wait to see you in person at All Henrico Reads in 2023.  The All Henrico Reads planning committee is thrilled to host an author of Mr. Ford’s stature, and we hope that his work will resonate with you and our community.
